According to a survey published this month and for group by Sofres, only the concept of sorting is, for the time being, familiar to the majority of the French (69), who say uninformed on incineration (58) and storage centres (63). To encourage them not to give up and make every day citizen action to comply with the selective sorting, Sita researchers lack not of imagination. Their latest invention has to be doubly rewarded the Lépine 2006 contest, by the award of the national Institute of industrial property (INPI) and the award of the city of Paris. It is a high-tech trash, named Cyclabelle and tested for four months, including the design to integrate perfectly in the household universe, which is capable of compressing 4 times the volume of waste through a system integrated suction air. Result: a classic bag of 40 litres engulf 160 litres of empty recyclable packaging! A technology that Sita has also adapted the hospital needs with Médibelle, a device which reduces the volume of waste activities to infectious risk (recommends) from 30 to 40, that the company unveiled the week last at the hospital Expo 2006.
But the findings of the survey assessing the perception of the public waste and treatment channels beyond the stage of ignorance. "Despite all the information campaigns conducted so far, it remains in the public apprehension in relation to waste," says Patrice Dauvin." Once the waste came out of their homes, people consider that it is no longer their problem and have no idea of what they are. Somehow, it's mind to see reappear.

Received ideas
However, waste is "streetscapes" more, sometimes in forms or the amazing uses. If the recycling paper, cardboard or glass, which return almost themselves, is entered in the morals, the transformation of plastic bottles in food packaging or polar textile film is less known. For pushing ideas received, "we had to find another angle of communication than a classic, more educational, and fun information campaign, which involves more public and establish transparency a subject still perceived as a little ashamed", said Patrice Dauvin.
For the first time in the week of sustainable development which opens Monday, may 29, Sita, a subsidiary of Suez Environment, invites the public to come discover "the fabulous adventure of waste", by participating in an educational and fun program. Four highlights will mark this event: of the open days organised in 70 sites treatment and valorization of the group, a website chronicling the life of the waste from the garbage with a fun guide, the mascot "sitami", a contest with unusual prices, as a dump truck ride! First prize is also original: "The bird woman", a work of art with a value of 10,000 euros carried out by the sculptor Michel Audiard Tin and bronze recovered on Sita sorting centres. The highlight of the show is also moving: a concert in a dump in Aulnay-sous-Bois! "It would have liked to organize an incineration site, it will be perhaps for the next time," fun Patrice Dauvin, President and CEO of Sita. "The goal is to demystify the subject," he says.
